The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Ruslan Stefanchuk, held a meeting with the President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, Pere Juan Pons Sampietro

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Ruslan Stefanchuk, met with the President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, Pere Juan Pons Sampietro, who is on an official visit to Kyiv.

During the meeting, the parties discussed key issues on the international agenda, in particular the return of illegally deported Ukrainian children. Ruslan Stefanchuk stressed that Ukraine expects the Parliamentary Assembly to actively participate in the International Coalition for their return and called for the mobilisation of delegations that have not yet joined. ‘This will be an important signal of unity for the international community,’ the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada emphasised.

Special attention was paid to the issue of establishing a Special Tribunal for the crime of aggression against Ukraine. «Without accountability, there can be no justice — and it is parliaments that can be the driving force in promoting this initiative,» Ruslan Stefanchuk noted.

During the meeting, the activities of the Parliamentary Support Group for Ukraine in the OSCE PA were also discussed. The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada stressed the importance of expanding its mandate, particularly in matters of energy security, the release of prisoners and overcoming humanitarian challenges.

Ruslan Stefanchuk thanked the President of the OSCE PA for the invitation to participate in the opening of the Assembly's winter session, which will take place in February next year. «Mr. Pons Sampietro's visit to Kyiv is not only a sign of solidarity with Ukraine, but also a confirmation of the OSCE's commitment to its principles,» the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine stressed.
