The dynamic process of Ukraine’s EU accession is one of the key security guarantees: Oleksandr Korniienko
The First Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniienko held a meeting with the European Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos and the Minister for European Affairs of the Kingdom of Denmark, Marie Bjerre. The event was attended by representatives of parliamentary factions and groups.
«I heard a very clear position from Ms Marta: «If we defend you, we will also defend the European Union,»» said Oleksandr Korniienko.
In his speech to European leaders, the First Deputy Speaker emphasized the important role of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in the negotiation process on Ukraine’s accession to the European Union. He recalled that he chairs the interagency working group on European integration and underlined the active involvement of Members of Parliament in this process. In particular, Oleksandr Korniienko took part in the screening in Brussels on the first negotiation cluster.
«I stressed the significance of parliamentarians’ participation at the screening stage. Ukraine was the fastest to complete a series of sessions assessing the compliance of national legislation with European standards. The dynamic process of Ukraine’s EU accession is a strategic element of broader peace efforts and one of the security guarantees,» he said.
The First Deputy Speaker emphasized that the involvement of the Verkhovna Rada in the European integration process fosters a continuous and constructive dialogue with society. Thanks to the openness and transparency of parliamentary activity, the process of European integration becomes clearer and more understandable for citizens.
«We also discussed the implementation of the Ukraine Facility Plan, the resilience of institutional capacity, and possible development paths along the European integration track,»noted Oleksandr Korniienko.
He also focused on Ukraine’s diplomatic work in the context of European integration. According to Korniienko, effective communication is carried out not only at the level of European Union institutions but also with each individual member state, in order to convincingly demonstrate Ukraine’s readiness for membership and to underline the mutual benefits of integration for the EU.
