Ruslan Stefanchuk met with the EU Commissioner for Enlargement and the Danish Minister for European Affairs Press Service of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine
The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Ruslan Stefanchuk, held a meeting with a delegation led by EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos and Minister for European Affairs of the Kingdom of Denmark Marie Bjerre.
The main focus was on negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the European Union. The Ukrainian side has fulfilled all the conditions for opening the ‘Fundamentals’ negotiation cluster, which covers the rule of law and the fight against corruption. Ruslan Stefanchuk expressed his hope for unity among EU member states in approving the relevant decision.
A separate topic of discussion was the sanctions pressure on russia. The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada welcomed the extension of personal restrictions and stressed the importance of adopting the 19th package of sanctions. He emphasised the need to introduce new decisions — from banning tourist visas for russian citizens to restrictions on key sectors of the russian economy.
A significant part of the discussion was devoted to military aid to Ukraine. Ruslan Stefanchuk confirmed Ukraine's unchanged priorities: air defence systems, long-range missiles, artillery and unmanned systems. He supported the initiative for each EU country to allocate at least 0.25% of its GDP to the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Separately, the parties considered the possibilities of the SAFE instrument, which could become a significant factor in strengthening the defence capabilities of both Ukraine and the European Union as a whole.
Ruslan Stefanchuk emphasised the importance of the active participation of the Ukrainian defence industry in these processes and thanked European partners for their commitment to a just and lasting peace for Ukraine.
