Oleksandr Korniienko discussed cooperation in the space sector with the European Commissioner
First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Kornienko held a meeting with European Commissioner for Defence and Space Andrius Kubilius and First Vice-Rector of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute Mykhailo Bezuglyi.
The parties discussed cooperation in the field of space technologies, in particular for defence purposes.
University representatives presented their developments in the space industry, in particular the PolyITAN series of nanosatellites, developed in accordance with the international CubeSat standard thanks to the space programme implemented.
«In addition, KPI initiated the launch of the Space Programme of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine with the participation of relevant higher education institutions,» Oleksandr Korniienko emphasised.
The following institutions also contributed to the development of the Space Programme: Oles Honchar Dnipro National University, National Aviation University "Kharkiv Aviation Institute named after M.E. Zhukovsky», Kharkiv Aviation Institute, Dnipro Polytechnic National Technical University, Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute «National Technical University», Lviv Polytechnic National University, and Polissia National University.
The First Deputy Speaker also noted that in June this year, the Verkhovna Rada ratified the renewal of the Agreement between the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the European Space Agency on cooperation in the peaceful use of outer space.
According to Oleksandr Korniienko, there are currently a number of European programmes that Ukraine could potentially join. «It is important for us to develop a space strategy and relevant areas of activity,» Oleksandr Korniienko emphasised.
