The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Ruslan Stefanchuk, held his first meeting with the President of the German Bundestag, Julia Klöckner

During the G7 Parliamentary Summit in Ottawa, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Ruslan Stefanchuk, met with the President of the Bundestag of the Federal Republic of Germany, Julia Klöckner. This was their first bilateral meeting.

The Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament thanked Germany for its significant political, military and financial support for Ukraine and noted Berlin's readiness to invest in the production of drones in Ukraine and to develop joint defence projects. ‘We also discussed the issue of supplying long-range missiles, as this is critical for our defence capability,’ he stressed.

Ruslan Stefanchuk stressed that Ukraine seeks a just and lasting peace, which is only possible on the basis of the UN Charter, without any territorial concessions. ‘The Constitution of Ukraine does not allow the renunciation of its own land or the restriction of sovereignty,’ the Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine noted.

The parties also agreed on the importance of continuing sanctions pressure on russia in key areas of the economy, particularly in energy, metallurgy and the chemical industry. Separately, they discussed the prospects of confiscating russia's frozen assets to finance Ukraine's reconstruction.

During the meeting, attention was also focused on Ukraine's European and Euro-Atlantic integration.
