Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk met with the President of the Chamber of Deputies of Italy Lorenzo Fontana during the G7 Summit in Ottawa

During a working visit to Canada, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk met with the President of the Chamber of Deputies of Italy Lorenzo Fontana. The meeting took place in the framework of the G7 Parliamentary Summit in Ottawa.

Ruslan Stefanchuk thanked the Italian side for its consistent support of Ukraine in defending its sovereignty and territorial integrity. He underlined the importance of military, political and financial assistance, as well as Italy's principled position on strengthening sanctions pressure on russia.

The parties discussed the prospects for expanding cooperation in the defence industry, in particular between defence companies of the two countries.

Special attention was paid to the issue of returning Ukrainian children illegally deported by russia from the temporarily occupied territories. The parties also discussed preparations for the Fourth Parliamentary Summit of the Crimean Platform to be held in November in Stockholm.

"Peace for Ukraine is possible only as a fair and lasting peace - without any territorial concessions. The Constitution of Ukraine does not allow this. That is why it is important that the G7 countries jointly and resolutely resist russia's attempts to prolong the war," the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada stressed.

In addition, Ruslan Stefanchuk invited Lorenzo Fontana to support the initiative to bring the speakers of the G7 parliaments to Kyiv. In his opinion, such a step would be an important manifestation of solidarity with the Ukrainian people.

Italy remains an important partner of Ukraine, and Rome's consistent support is a significant contribution to the common struggle for freedom and peace in Europe.
