Switzerland to finance 12 projects for Ukraine’s reconstruction worth over CHF 93 million
Ukraine and Switzerland are launching 12 infrastructure, social, and humanitarian projects worth over CHF 93 million under an intergovernmental agreement. This was announced by Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko after meeting with Swiss Federal Council Delegate for Ukraine Jacques Gerber.
“Lighting in frontline cities, new fastener production in Kremenchuk for European rail gauges, housing for IDPs, and modern hospitals for Ukrainians – all this will be possible through our new joint projects with Swiss businesses. These will not only restore damaged infrastructure but also create jobs, new industries, and economic opportunities for Ukrainian communities,” stressed Yulia Svyrydenko.
Projects to be implemented starting in autumn 2025 include:
Energy and Infrastructure
- Modernisation of high-voltage grids in 7 frontline regions and training for Ukrenergo staff (Hitachi Energy – CHF 3.7 million);
- Construction of 11 solar power plants with energy storage for Mykolaivvodokanal pumping stations (Elektrobedarf Troller – CHF 1.7 million);
- Production of fasteners in Kremenchuk for 1,435 mm European rail gauges, creating up to 20 jobs (Schwihag – CHF 14.4 million);
- Production of contact wires for railway electrification and training for Ukrzaliznytsia staff (Arthur Flury – CHF 12.9 million).
Housing
- Construction of modular homes for IDPs with local production in Vinnytsia, creating over 50 jobs (Divario – CHF 15 million);
- Building modular homes for IDPs in Sumy region, with 95% components made in Ukraine (DM Bau – CHF 8.9 million);
- Replacement of over 32,000 windows in damaged buildings in Kharkiv and eastern regions (Glas Trösch – CHF 9.9 million).
Education
- Energy-efficient doors and windows for vocational schools and practical training programmes (Rehau – CHF 4.8 million);
- Modern sanitary systems and training for students on installation, considering needs of people with disabilities (Geberit – CHF 3.7 million).
Healthcare
- Construction of a four-storey diagnostic laboratory in Lviv and staff training (Roche Diagnostics – CHF 8.8 million);
- Ukraine’s first brachytherapy centre for cancer treatment in Ivano-Frankivsk, with training for Ukrainian doctors (Innovatec Med – CHF 3 million).
Humanitarian Demining
- Creation of a repair workshop, new equipment, and drones to enhance State Emergency Service capabilities (Fondation Suisse de Déminage – CHF 6.4 million).
The Prime Minister noted that the initial tender budget was CHF 50 million, but due to high interest – 43 applications from Swiss companies totalling over CHF 500 million – the budget was nearly doubled. Part of the project costs will be funded by the Swiss private sector.
“I am sincerely grateful to the Swiss government and companies that believe in Ukraine’s reconstruction. This partnership is a vivid example of how international cooperation translates into tangible changes for our communities and people,” added Yulia Svyrydenko.
