Verkhovna Rada Chairman Ruslan Stefanchuk discussed with the President of the Belgian House of Representatives the issues of peaceful settlement and security guarantees for Ukraine

Verkhovna Rada Chairman Ruslan Stefanchuk held a telephone conversation with the President of the Belgian House of Representatives Peter De Roover. The main topic of discussion was ways to achieve a just and lasting peace, as well as security guarantees for Ukraine and Europe.

According to Ruslan Stefanchuk, Belgium's position on supporting Ukraine is clear and principled. «The overwhelming majority in the Belgian parliament is on Ukraine's side. This is important and valuable. No decisions about Ukraine without Ukraine, no negotiations on security in Europe without the participation of Europe itself,» he stressed.

The parties discussed possible formats for negotiations, emphasising that a ceasefire should be the starting point for any further decisions. The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada also stressed that security guarantees must be real and effective, not just declarative, and capable of stopping the aggressor.

A common understanding was reached that any initiatives for a peaceful settlement must be accompanied by strong sanctions and political pressure on russia. The parties agreed to maintain constant dialogue and coordination of efforts to bring peace to Ukraine and ensure stability in Europe.
