Ruslan Stefanchuk and Lindsay Hoyle discussed the principles of peaceful settlement and further parliamentary cooperation

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Ruslan Stefanchuk, held talks with the Speaker of the House of Commons of the UK Parliament, Lindsay Hoyle.

The parties discussed the key principles that, in their opinion, should form the basis of any peace initiatives.

It was emphasised that Ukraine is an integral part of the European community and that its future should be determined with the participation of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Europe must also be represented at the negotiating table when it comes to the architecture of European security.

The parties' common position is that russian aggression and barbaric attacks, which are crimes against humanity, must be stopped. Negotiations are only possible after a ceasefire and with real security guarantees in place.

Ruslan Stefanchuk and Lindsay Hoyle stressed that russia cannot have a veto over Ukraine's sovereign future, either in the context of EU or NATO membership. Any political settlement must be accompanied by effective pressure mechanisms, including sanctions.

The parties also discussed the upcoming meeting within the framework of the G7 Parliamentary Summit in Ottawa and agreed to maintain constant contact and coordinate further actions for a just, sustainable and secure peace for Ukraine and all of Europe.
