The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada held a telephone conversation with the Speaker of the Assembly of the Republic of Portugal

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Ruslan Stefanchuk, continues active consultations with international partners on key security and peace solutions for Ukraine. As part of this political dialogue, he held a telephone conversation with the Speaker of the Assembly of the Republic of Portugal, José Pedro Aguiar-Branco.

The parties discussed further actions to strengthen security in Europe and ensure a just and sustainable peace in Ukraine. Ruslan Stefanchuk expressed his gratitude to his Portuguese colleague for his consistent support of the position that no agreements regarding Ukraine can be adopted without its participation.

«Any steps taken without our country's involvement will only push Russia to try again to take over other countries' territories. Putin keeps breaking international rules and agreements, so we need to have all the tools we need to stop him from ignoring international law,» the Verkhovna Rada Chairman said. He also stressed the need to maintain military and financial support for Ukraine until decisions are made that are in line with its national interests, and to increase sanctions pressure on the aggressor.

In turn, the Speaker of the Assembly of the Republic of Portugal confirmed his parliament's firm position in support of Ukraine, assuring that it will remain stable in the future. The parties agreed to continue actively coordinating efforts on this important issue, not only for Ukraine but for the whole of Europe, in order to ensure effective international support and promote the establishment of a just and lasting peace.
