The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, Ruslan Stefanchuk, held talks with the Speaker of the House of Commons of Canada, Francis Scarpaleggia
The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Ruslan Stefanchuk, held a substantive telephone conversation with the Speaker of the House of Commons of Canada, Francis Scarpaleggia. During the discussion, the key topic was the inviolability of Ukraine's territorial integrity and the principle of the inalienability of Ukrainian lands.
The parties unequivocally confirmed that the issue of Ukrainian territories cannot be the subject of any negotiations. «The aggressor cannot be given what it is trying to illegally seize or retain. Ukraine respects international law, and together with our partners, we will act to ensure that it remains inviolable,» the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada emphasised.
Ruslan Stefanchuk stressed that Russia has systematically violated all agreements and international treaties, so the common task of democratic states is to find effective levers of pressure that would force the Kremlin to comply with international norms.
Particular attention was paid to achieving a just and lasting peace that would serve Ukraine's interests and ensure stability throughout the democratic world. «Our task is not simply to stop the war, but to ensure that such aggression never happens again,» said the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada.
Ruslan Stefanchuk also expressed hope that the G7's position would continue to be focused on strengthening international security and consolidating efforts to establish peace. He thanked Canada for its consistent and principled support for Ukraine in all areas, from diplomatic to military and humanitarian.
Canada is one of Ukraine's most loyal partners, consistently defending democratic values and the rule of law around the world, demonstrating true solidarity in times of greatest challenge.
