President Met with Warriors of the 225th Separate Assault Regiment on the Anniversary of the Start of the Kursk Operation and Presented State Awards

In the Sumy region, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with the warriors of the 225th Separate Assault Regiment at the unit’s command post.

The servicemembers of this regiment were the first to enter the territory of the Kursk region last year. The Head of State thanked the defenders, their brothers-in-arms, and commanders for their service and for the results achieved during the Kursk operation thanks to their efforts.

“Thank you for taking the war from our land to their Kursk region. Thanks to your capture of over a thousand Russians, we managed to bring home more than a thousand Ukrainian soldiers. And thank you for helping our troops in the East at a time of immense pressure, when there was a real risk of a catastrophic breakthrough on our front,” said Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

The memory of all those who gave their lives for Ukraine was honored with a moment of silence.

The President presented the Order of the Golden Star to Hero of Ukraine Senior Lieutenant Ivan Kozin. On August 6 last year, the unit under his command broke through the enemy’s forward defensive line in the Kursk region, destroyed enemy fortifications, and enabled Ukrainian forces to advance deeper into Russian territory. During the operation, the unit destroyed over ten pieces of Russian weaponry and military equipment, eliminated more than 400 Russian soldiers, and wounded nearly 850 more. Later, as commander of an assault battalion, Ivan Kozin successfully planned and organized the assault on Olgovka: he studied intelligence data, identified weaknesses in enemy defenses, took into account minefields and terrain features. In October, the company under his command repelled a massive enemy assault near Novoivanovka, broke through the line, and seized a key hill, cutting off the enemy’s logistics.

The Head of State also awarded six warriors with the Orders “For Courage,” 3rd Class.

The President heard a detailed report from the regiment commander, Hero of Ukraine Oleh Shyriaiev, on the liberation of Andriivka and Kindrativka in the Sumy region, Russian attempts at counterattacks, and the next steps for liberating Ukrainian territory and reaching the state border.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy also spoke with commanders and servicemembers of the regiment about their needs, overall supply levels, and the training of recruits under the Basic Military Training program and their instructors. They also discussed the preparation, motivation, and performance of the “Shkval” unit in carrying out assigned tasks.
