Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk: Ukraine and Switzerland are partners united by shared values of peace, democracy and humanity.

A meeting was held in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine between the Chairman of the Parliament, Ruslan Stefanchuk, and the President of the National Council of the Federal Assembly of the Swiss Confederation, Maja Riniker.

According to Ruslan Stefanchuk, the visit of the President sends us a clear signal of Swiss solidarity with the Ukrainian people during a full-scale war. The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine expressed his gratitude for significant humanitarian assistance, support for Ukrainians who found refuge in Switzerland and its participation in the Global Peace Summit. 

The parties discussed a wide field of issues, in particular the need for a just peace based on respect for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, strengthening of the sanctions pressure on russia and the establishment of compensation mechanisms using frozen Russian assets.

Ruslan Stefanchuk emphasised the role of Switzerland as a platform for peace negotiations. The parties also discussed financing Ukraine's reconstruction projects and humanitarian demining, as well as the protection of the rights of Ukrainian refugees and preserving the proper conditions of temporary protection.

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine called on Swiss parliamentarians to consider adopting a declaration in support of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

«The partnership of Ukraine and Switzerland remains strong and effective. We are grateful for commitment to the principles of democracy and humanism,» emphasised Ruslan Stefancuk.

After the meeting the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Ruslan Stefanchuk, and the President of the National Council of the Federal Assembly of the Swiss Confederation, Maja Riniker held a joint briefing.

The Head of the Ukrainian Parliament thanked the Swiss Confederation for its substantial financial support to Ukraine, in particular for allocating 1.5 billion Swiss francs, and emphasized the importance of Swiss business involvement in investment projects.

In turn, the President of the National Council of the Federal Assembly of the Swiss Confederation expressed her gratitude for the invitation and emphasized that her visit is a demonstration of Switzerland’s commitment to supporting Ukraine in its war against russian aggression. She acknowledged the role of the Ukrainian Parliament in strengthening democracy and stressed that Switzerland will continue to provide support across all areas — from diplomacy to economic recovery.

Maja Riniker also announced that Switzerland has planned to allocate an additional 5 billion Swiss francs for assistance and reconstruction in Ukraine during the period from 2025 to 2036.

«We will unwaveringly continue to make every effort to bring about a stable, comprehensive, just, and lasting peace in Ukraine based on international law and under the auspices of the United Nations,» said the President of the National Council of the Federal Assembly of the Swiss Confederation.
