Prime Ministers of Ukraine and Spain discuss air defence, joint production of drones and confiscation of russian assets
During his working visit to the Kingdom of Spain, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal met with Prime Minister of Spain Pedro Sánchez.
The Head of the Ukrainian Government thanked for the support of our country. According to him, the total amount of assistance is over EUR 2 billion.
"Military assistance is especially important. Spanish air defence systems help to protect Ukrainian skies from russian missiles and drones," Denys Shmyhal stressed.
In this context, the parties addressed further strengthening of defence cooperation, as well as Ukraine's current needs, primarily in air defence systems.
"Ukraine proposes to establish joint production of drones and other defence technologies. We are also working on a solution to defeat russian drones that attack Ukrainian infrastructure on a daily basis," said Denys Shmyhal.
The meeting's participants also focused on the restoration of Ukraine and the confiscation of frozen russian assets, which, according to the Head of Government, remain a key financial resource that should be used to rebuild our country.
The Prime Ministers also paid attention to the issues of European integration.
‘We expect a political decision to start negotiations on EU membership this year,’ said Denys Shmyhal.
He also informed that during the meeting, an agreement had been reached to hold the fifth meeting of the of the Joint Intergovernmental Ukrainian-Spanish Commission on Economic and Industrial Cooperation.
In addition, Denys Shmyhal expressed his hope that important positive decisions would be made during the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development under the auspices of the United Nations, to be held in Spain in the coming days.
