Denys Shmyhal and Andrzej Duda discussed security cooperation and Ukraine's European integration
On 28 June, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal met with President of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Duda, who is on an official visit to Ukraine.
The Head of the Ukrainian Government thanked Andrzej Duda for his personal efforts in supporting our country and congratulated him on the award from the President of Ukraine - the Order of Freedom, one of the highest honours of the country.
Denys Shmyhal noted that Ukraine appreciates the consistent position of the President of Poland on Ukraine's European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations.
At the meeting, the Prime Minister said that Ukrainian cities were being attacked by russia on a daily basis. The enemy uses drones and combined attacks with ballistic and cruise missiles.
"That is why the issue of strengthening air defence remains the number one priority. We look forward to Poland's participation in enhancing Ukraine's air defence," said Denys Shmyhal.
The parties also discussed the situation at the frontline.
"We expect further support from Europe, in particular through the SAFE programme and the ReArm Europe plan - key EU initiatives in the field of security and defence. We are determined to use these tools effectively to boost defence production," the Prime Minister noted.
In addition, the parties talked about the sanctions policy against russia. The Head of Government highlighted the importance of introducing the 18th package of sanctions and stressed that they should be stronger and more tangible to increase pressure on the aggressor to force it to the negotiating table.
Denys Shmyhal and Andrzej Duda also focused on the issue of russian frozen assets.
"We are grateful for the launch of the ERA programme, which is a help to our economy. However, this is insufficient. It is necessary to find a clear political and legal mechanism for the full confiscation of these assets with their subsequent use to rebuild Ukraine and strengthen our and European security," the Prime Minister stressed.
