Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk: Establishment of the Special Tribunal is proof of the inevitability of international justice
The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine welcomed the signing of the Agreement between President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Secretary General of the Council of Europe Alain Berset on the establishment of a Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine committed by russia.
He emphasized that this is a historic step that restores the principles of accountability in international law.
«Justice needs a mechanism. The tribunal is exactly that,» emphasised the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
The Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada noted that, for the first time since World War II, the world is uniting to establish a separate international accountability mechanism for the crime of aggression — the very act that paved the way for all subsequent war crimes committed by russia.
He also highlighted the decisiveness of the Head of State's actions. «The signing of this Agreement is the result of President Zelenskyy's determination and consistency in defending the principles of truth and justice since the very beginning of the full-scale war.»
The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada expressed gratitude to the Council of Europe for its unwavering position and assured that the Ukrainian Parliament will provide all necessary support to the Tribunal at the legislative, political, and institutional levels.
«There will be no impunity. The Tribunal is proof that justice is not being postponed — it is taking shape and inevitably approaching,» he summed up.
