Investment, innovation and recovery - key topics of the meeting between the Prime Minister of Ukraine and governmental delegation of Finland
On May 28, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal met with Prime Minister of Finland Petteri Orpo and a delegation of officials in Kyiv.
The agenda included investment, deepening cooperation, and the application of modern approaches and initiatives in various fields.
"Ukraine is grateful to Finland for the continued solidarity and assistance provided by the Government and people of this country. We have received more than EUR 2.7 billion in military and almost EUR 90 million in financial support, as well as about EUR 816 million in humanitarian aid from Finland," said Denys Shmyhal.
He also emphasized that Ukraine was interested in innovative solutions in key areas, including the defense sector, circular economy, environmental protection, natural resource management, energy, digitalization, and education. Discussing cooperation in these areas, Denys Shmyhal noted that Ukraine counts on Finland's experience and support.
In addition, the Head of the Ukrainian Government emphasized that Finland's readiness to continue supporting the strengthening our defense capabilities is essential for our country. He informed that Finland had already provided 28 packages of military assistance. In this context, the parties addressed the implementation of joint programs, in particular military training.
Finland has also financed a number of development projects, including the supply of energy equipment, as well as significantly supported humanitarian demining in Ukraine with over EUR 8 million.
"We appreciate Finland's consistent position in sanctions policy. We have coordinated our joint steps to increase pressure on russia, in particular, counteracting the russian shadow tanker fleet and the struggle to refuse russian energy carriers," the Prime Minister said following the meeting.
He also emphasized that Finland was actively involved in the recovery process. In particular, the plan of participation in the reconstruction of our country approved at the governmental level provides for a budget of more than EUR 50 million. Among other things, it envisages the involvement of Finnish companies on the basis of public-private partnership.
Denys Shmyhal called on Finnish companies to join the process of rebuilding Ukraine and take part in the Recovery Conference scheduled for July this year in Rome.
“I strongly believe that Ukraine and Finland will continue bolstering their strategic partnership and expanding the areas of cooperation,” the Head of the Ukrainian Government noted.
