Ruslan Stefanchuk thanked Bärbel Bas for the support of Ukraine and discussed strategic partnership with Germany
Ruslan Stefanchuk, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, met in Strasbourg with Bärbel Bas, President of the Bundestag, who is completing her mandate. He thanked her for her consistent support of Ukraine and recalled her historic visit to Kyiv on 8 May 2022, the first by a German high-ranking official since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion. «It was a clear signal of solidarity that we remember,» he said.
During the meeting, the parties discussed further cooperation and support of Ukraine by Germany. Ruslan Stefanchuk noted that Germany remains a strategic partner of Ukraine. «We are counting on Germany's continued powerful support, as it is vital for our security and future,» he said.
The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine also highlighted the importance of European integration. «We have to consolidate the irreversibility of Ukraine's membership in the EU and set clear deadlines on this path,» he said.
Special attention was paid to defence cooperation. «Ukraine's defence industry is developing rapidly, and Germany can become a key partner in joint arms production,» said Ruslan Stefanchuk.
They also discussed the confiscation of Russian assets. «It's time to move from freezing them to using them for the defence and reconstruction of Ukraine,» the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine said.
In conclusion, Ruslan Stefanchuk thanked Bärbel Bas and the Bundestag for their unwavering support of Ukraine in the most difficult times. «Germany has been, is and remains an important ally of Ukraine on the path to victory and peace,» he concluded.
