Ruslan Stefanchuk discussed support for Ukraine with the Nordic Council leadership
Ruslan Stefanchuk, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, met with Helene Bjorklund, President of the Nordic Council, and Secretary General Kristina Hafoss. The parties discussed assistance to Ukraine, security guarantees and the confiscation of russian assets.
Ruslan Stefanchuk thanked the Nordic Council countries for their steadfast support of Ukraine. «The Nordic countries have demonstrated one of the strongest positions on Ukraine. The total amount of their provided aid has already exceeded $20 billion,» he said.
The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine highlighted the necessity of long-term support programmes, which the European partners continue to implement. «Defence and financial assistance is only part of the effort. Equally important is a strategic approach that involves investments in long-term support programmes. We highly appreciate this contribution to common security,» he noted.
«A particular emphasis was placed on security guarantees and the peace process. ‘Ukraine seeks just peace, not appeasement of the aggressor. It is important that European partners take an active part in the peace process and guarantee security in the region,» Ruslan Stefanchuk said.
The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine also underscored the importance of accelerating the process of confiscation of Russian assets and strengthening sanctions pressure. «The work on new sanctions and the mechanism for transferring frozen assets of the Russian Federation to Ukraine should be accelerated. This is an important step towards bringing the aggressor to justice,» he said.
In conclusion, Ruslan Stefanchuk expressed his gratitude to the countries of the Nordic Council for their solidarity with Ukraine and their decisive actions in countering the aggression.
