Ruslan Stefanchuk held his first in-person meeting with the President of the Senate of Spain
During his working visit to Strasbourg, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk held his first in-person meeting with the President of the Spanish Senate, Pedro Rollán Ojeda. The discussion focused on international support for Ukraine, a just peace, and russia’s responsibility for aggression.
Ruslan Stefanchuk expressed gratitude to the Spanish Senate for its firm stance in condemning russian aggression and for joining the Joint Statement of world parliaments on the anniversary of russia’s full-scale invasion. He also emphasized the historical significance of the Spanish Parliament's decision to recognize the Holodomor as genocide of the Ukrainian people.
The meeting paid special attention to the issue of a just peace. Ruslan Stefanchuk stressed that any peace initiatives must be based on Ukraine’s sovereignty, adherence to the UN Charter, and the principle of «nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine».
The parties also raised the matter of negotiations with russia. «russia has not abandoned its aggressive goals for Ukraine, so any negotiations are possible only if international pressure is increased and Ukraine's defence capabilities are strengthened», Ruslan Stefanchuk underlined.
One of the key issues discussed was the confiscation of russian assets. Ruslan Stefanchuk called for moving beyond freezing these assets to their seizure and use for Ukraine’s recovery and defense.
«I express my gratitude to Spain for its solidarity and support for Ukraine! Together, we strengthen Europe’s security», Ruslan Stefanchuk emphasized.
