Ruslan Stefanchuk commenced a working visit to Strasbourg and met with the President of PACE
Ruslan Stefanchuk, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, has began a working visit to Strasbourg, where he attends the European Conference of Presidents of Parliaments.
The visit began with a productive discussion between Ruslan Stefanchuk and Theodoros Roussopoulos, President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. They focused on key areas of cooperation, specifically the issues of bringing russia to justice, creating a compensation mechanism for the affected Ukrainians, and keeping Ukraine among the PACE's priorities.
Ruslan Stefanchuk underscored the necessity of finalising the documents on the establishment of a Special Tribunal to prosecute the russian leadership for the crime of aggression by May this year.
Special attention was drawn to the issue of the compensation mechanism - the Register of Damages has received more than 14,000 applications from Ukrainians. The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine asked to facilitate the acceleration of work on the compensation fund and mechanisms for transferring confiscated russian assets to reimburse victims.
"It is crucial to ensure that Ukraine remains among PACE's key priorities, as the war continues and global support must maintain its momentum," emphasized Ruslan Stefanchuk.
The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine also thanked the partner countries for funding the participation of the Ukrainian delegation in PACE and called for the continuation of this aid as an important signal of solidarity with Ukraine.
"The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe remains a reliable partner of Ukraine. Our goal is to further unite parliamentary circles to strengthen support for our country," noted Ruslan Stefanchuk.
He emphasized that Europe clearly understands that the threat from russia has not disappeared and that unity and determination in countering aggression must only grow.
