Denys Shmyhal and Beate Meinl-Reisinger discuss support for European integration and economic cooperation
Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal and Austrian Federal Minister for European and International Affairs Beate Meinl-Reisinger discussed the expansion of economic partnership, support for European integration and humanitarian aid. The meeting took place on 14 March in Kyiv.
According to the Head of the Ukrainian Government, Austria supports the European aspirations of Ukraine and today the parties considered further steps towards European integration.
The meeting also focused on economic cooperation between the two countries.
“Austria is one of the largest investors in Ukraine. We are looking forward to the visit of the Austrian business delegation to Kyiv to coordinate our cooperation for the future,” said Denys Shmyhal, adding that many Austrian companies were interested in cooperation and investment in Ukraine.
The Prime Minister invited Austrian businesses to join the reconstruction projects.
“In this context, we raised the issue of appointing a special representative for Ukraine to better coordinate our cooperation in this area,” said Denys Shmyhal.
During the meeting, he also stressed the importance of confiscating frozen russian assets, which can be a significant resource for the reconstruction of Ukraine. The Head of the Ukrainian Government also thanked Austria for its support of sanctions against russia and noted that Ukraine expected the sanctions pressure on the aggressor to increase.
For her part, Beate Meinl-Reisinger stressed that Austria would continue to support Ukraine. During her visit to Ukraine today, the Minister also announced that Austria would provide EUR 5 million for demining and EUR 2 million for the Grain from Ukraine initiative.
