During the solemn session of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk delivered a speech dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the restoration of the independence of Lithuania.
He highlighted the historical significance of this date and recalled how Lithuania was the first to embark on the path of freedom, setting an example for other nations, including Ukraine.
"35 years ago, Lithuania made a historic decision that became an act of justice and the beginning of the collapse of the russian empire. Ukrainians sincerely admired the Lithuanians, who resolutely broke the hated shackles and escaped from the prison of nations," Ruslan Stefanchuk noted.
He thanked the Lithuanian people for their unwavering support for Ukraine, especially in times of difficult trials.
"Lithuanians remain an example of solidarity, devotion and true brotherhood for us. Ukrainians will never forget how Lithuania supported us without hesitation in the fight against the aggressor," the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada accentuated.
Ruslan Stefanchuk emphasized that Ukraine will continue to fight for its freedom, independence, and future, calling on Lithuania to continue to support the Ukrainian people.
"We will never stop fighting for the most sacred thing – our freedom, land and future. Also, I ask you to continue to help Ukraine in every way possible. Your support is critically crucial when we deter the invader and prove to the world who is the victim and the aggressor," he said.
At the end of his speech, Ruslan Stefanchuk expressed his belief that Ukraine would stand firm and become part of the great European and Euro-Atlantic family.
"We will definitely win. And on the Great Victory Day, our national anthems will sound, where important words will sing in unison: "Lithuania is our homeland, you are the land of heroes from future centuries" and "We will lay down our soul and body for our freedom", - concluded the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
He finalised his speech: "Glory to Ukraine and glory to Lithuania!"
