Prime Ministers of Ukraine and France discuss defence cooperation and economic partnership

On 6 March, the Prime Ministers of Ukraine and France, Denys Shmyhal and François Bayrou, had a conversation.

The parties discussed a wide range of issues. One of the main topics was defence cooperation. According to the Head of Ukrainian Government, there are already first developments in the defence sector between Ukrainian and French companies.

“We are looking forward to strengthening this cooperation,” said Denys Shmyhal.

The economic partnership between the two countries was also on the agenda of the conversation between the Prime Ministers. To strengthen cooperation between the governments, Denys Shmyhal proposed to hold a joint meeting in Kyiv and Paris.

He also noted the importance of France’s involvement in the process of Ukraine’s reconstruction and thanked France for its participation in projects to rebuild Chernihiv region and for its support of humanitarian initiatives for Ukraine.

The parties also discussed the importance of continuing the sanctions policy against the aggressor.

“The strengthening of sanctions is an important element of pressure on russia to force it to the negotiating table and end the war. The same goes for frozen russian assets,” stressed Denys Shmyhal, raising the issue of their confiscation and transfer to Ukraine.

The Prime Minister of Ukraine noted France’s leading role in efforts to establish a just peace and thanked the people of France, the French Government, and President Emmanuel Macron for their unwavering and firm support for Ukraine.

For his part, François Bayrou assured Ukraine of continued support and assistance in the social, economic and defence fields.
