On 19 February, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal had a conversation with the newly appointed Prime Minister of Belgium, Bart De Wever.

The parties discussed support for Ukraine and increased sanctions pressure on russia.

The Prime Minister of Ukraine briefed his counterpart on the current situation in the country and spoke about the ongoing russian terror against peaceful cities, civilian and energy infrastructure. Denys Shmyhal stressed the importance of Belgium’s support for Ukraine’s energy sector.

The Prime Ministers unanimously stressed the need for Europe to be united in order to counter the russian threat.

“Ukraine’s position is unchanged – the aggressor must pay, so together with our European partners we are working to create the legal mechanisms necessary to achieve this goal,” said Denys Shmyhal.

The Head of Ukrainian Government stressed the importance of continued assistance to Ukraine.

“It is also important to ensure uninterrupted flows under the Ukraine Facility initiative,” said Denys Shmyhal, thanking Belgium for its support of this mechanism.
