The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk discussed security and defence cooperation with Chairman of the NATO Military Committee
The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk met in Kyiv with Chairman of the NATO Military Committee Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone. During the talks, the parties focused on the priority areas of cooperation in the security and defence sector.
First of all, Ruslan Stefanchuk received assurances of the unwavering position of the Alliance towards Ukraine and guarantees of further allied assistance. Among the priority topics of the meeting was strengthening air defence, as Ukraine needs additional air defence systems, missiles and interceptors to protect civilian and critical infrastructure from russian attacks. Financial support was also discussed, as the fulfilment of NATO member states’ commitments should help strengthen Ukraine’s defence capabilities.
In addition, the parties discussed the effective implementation of the Alliance’s NSATU programme, aimed at coordinating military assistance and improving the training of the Ukrainian military. In addition, they raised the issue of Ukraine’s membership in NATO, as it remains the only guarantee of security that will prevent potential russian aggression and strengthen our negotiating position, as well as enhance the security of Europe. Particular attention was paid to defence reforms, including the implementation of NATO standards and ensuring transparency in defence procurement.
“It was a warm meeting and a constructive conversation. Ukraine is grateful to NATO for its support and looks forward to further strengthening our defence partnership. Together we will achieve security and peace,” said Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk following the meeting.
