Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal met with representatives of the Latvian Saeima led by Speaker Daiga Mieriņa.
“I am deeply grateful to Latvia for its military and technical assistance to Ukraine. Weapons, ammunition and military goods worth more than EUR 501 million have already been supplied,” said Denys Shmyhal.
The parties discussed support for the Ukrainian defence industry based on the Danish model and the continuation of training programmes for the Ukrainian military.
The participants also coordinated further efforts to tighten sanctions against russia. The Prime Minister of Ukraine underlined the importance of restrictions on russia’s nuclear industry and further action against russia’s shadow fleet. He thanked Latvia for its active support of this initiative.
Among other issues, the parties focused on the creation of a reliable and cost-effective transport corridor between Ukraine and the Baltic States: “I am confident that the full launch of Rail Baltica will open up new opportunities in this area,” said Denys Shmyhal.
