Military support, cyber defence, sanctions and confiscation of russian assets
On 15 January, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia Margus Tsahkna in Kyiv.
The Head of the Ukrainian Government thanked Estonia for supporting our country at all levels. He outlined Ukraine's urgent defence needs, including air defence systems. The parties also touched upon the procurement of weapons for Ukraine and joint arms production.
Denys Shmyhal stressed that russia poses a common threat to all European countries. In this regard, the participants of the meeting addressed countering the enemy in the field of cyber defence and coordinated work within the IT Coalition and the Talinn Mechanism to strengthen cyber support for Ukraine.
"We look forward to further exchange of experience within the NATO Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence," said Denys Shmyhal.
The parties also touched upon the issue of sanctions against russia. According to the Prime Minister of Ukraine, the new EU restrictive package should include sanctions against russia's ‘shadow fleet’, nuclear and metallurgical industries.
Denys Shmyhal thanked Estonia for adopting a law that allows the use of russian frozen assets to compensate Ukraine for the damage caused by the war.
"We must make every effort to ensure that all frozen assets of the aggressor are confiscated and used to restore Ukraine," the Prime Minister of Ukraine stressed.
Denys Shmyhal, among other things, praised Estonia's participation in the reconstruction of Zhytomyr region: "We are looking forward to new joint projects and the participation of Estonian companies in Ukraine's recovery."
