Ukraine's NATO membership is the best security guarantee

After meeting with the delegation of the Saeima of the Republic of Latvia, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Ruslan Stefanchuk and the Speaker of the Latvian Parliament, Daiga Mierinė held a joint briefing for media representatives.

Answering a question from a Latvian television journalist about the presence of allied armed forces in Ukraine as a way to force Russia to negotiate, Ruslan Stefanchuk emphasized that the best guarantee for Ukraine is NATO membership. "This issue, in my opinion, should be decisive and be on the agenda not only in Ukraine but also in the world," the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada noted.

Ruslan Stefanchuk also drew attention to the scale of the victims suffered by Ukraine in the fight against the aggressor. At the same time, he emphasized that not only Ukrainians but also citizens of other countries who stood up for democracy are dying in this war.

Thus, according to him, on December 25, near Novoyehorivka, Luhansk region, one of the Latvian volunteers, Edgar Platonov, died. "His sacrifice proves that in this war, everyone suffers losses – every country that chose the side of freedom and democracy," Ruslan Stefanchuk emphasized.

In her speech, the Speaker of the Latvian Saeima, Daiga Mierinja, emphasized that Latvia will continue to support Ukraine because this struggle is a common cause of all democratic countries.
