Prime Minister chairs meeting to discuss practical steps of the Civil Protection Coalition
Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal chaired a meeting on the development of a fund for civil protection structures in Ukraine, taking into account international experience and attracting funds from partner countries.
The meeting was attended by Oleksii Kuleba, Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration of Ukraine and Minister for Communities and Territories Development, Andrii Sybiha, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ihor Klymenko, Minister of Internal Affairs, Viktor Liashko, Minister of Health, Oksen Lisovyi, Minister of Education and Science, Serhii Sukhomlyn, Head of the State Agency for Restoration and Infrastructure Development, and Andriy Danyk, Head of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.
One of the main issues discussed was the practical steps of the Civil Protection Coalition. The Head of Government recalled that an agreement to create the coalition was reached with Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo during a working visit to Helsinki in October this year. Denys Shmyhal noted that Finland had taken the lead in this matter.
“We hope that both European countries and states from other continents will join the Coalition,” the Prime Minister stressed, adding that, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, since 2022, the number of objects in the protective structures fund had tripled since 2022, reaching 62,655.
“Our goal is to improve the existing shelters, create new ones, especially in medical and educational institutions, and ensure the operation of shelters according to the Finnish model, where all shelters have a high level of protection and dual purpose,” said Denys Shmyhal, informing that the responsible ministries were already developing a long-term strategy.
