Economic cooperation and military assistance to Ukraine negotiated by Denys Shmyhal and Vice Chancellor of Germany Robert Habeck
Рrime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal and Vice Chancellor, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action of Germany Robert Habeck discussed the need to supply Ukraine with long-range weapons as a step to force russia to peace. The meeting took place on 11 December as part of a working visit of the Government delegation to Berlin.
Denys Shmyhal also stressed that Ukraine needs to enhance its air defence system to protect people and infrastructure, including the energy sector. The parties considered consolidating efforts in this area.
For his part, the Prime Minister thanked Germany for its continued support of Ukraine's energy sector and informed the Vice Chancellor about the situation in the energy sector and the need for equipment.
Denys Shmyhal and Robert Habeck also addressed the sanctions policy against the aggressor. The Head of Government called for tougher sanctions against russia, in particular against russian raw materials and energy resources. In addition, the Prime Minister offered to support the mechanism of introducing additional taxation on russian goods to channel these funds to rebuild Ukraine.
The parties also paid attention to economic cooperation.
"The trade turnover between Ukraine and Germany has grown by 17% this year and reached USD 6.1 billion," Denys Shmyhal said and added that the Vice Chancellor and him had talked about further economic cooperation between Ukraine and Germany. In particular, they talked about the ACAA agreement, making it possible to strengthen the production cooperation between the countries, as well as trade liberalisation.
