Cooperation between European and Ukrainian defense industries is important for strengthening EU defense capabilities

Cooperation between the defense industries of Ukraine and the EU was discussed by Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal with EU Commissioner for Defense and Space Andrius Kubilius. The meeting took place in Kyiv on December 13.

“Further strengthening of cooperation between the European and Ukrainian defense industries is vital for enhancing the EU's defense capabilities and readiness for any future aggression,” the Head of the Ukrainian Government said in the conversation.

He also emphasized that Ukraine needs more artillery systems and ammunition, enhanced air defense, and increased production of long-range weapons.

The Prime Minister noted the positive example of the “Danish model” of purchasing weapons for Ukraine from Ukrainian producers and called on European countries to join this initiative.

Denys Shmyhal strongly believes that the Ukrainian defense industry should be integrated into the EU supply chain for the production of weapons and military equipment. He expressed hope that the opening of the EU Office for Defense Innovation in Kyiv in September this year will help strengthen cooperation between the defense industries in the EU and Ukraine.

Among other things, the parties also addressed access to European funds for Ukrainian producers, strengthening of sanctions against russia, and the implementation of the President's Victory Plan.
