Switzerland supports the Ukrainian Peace Formula
Оn the sidelines of the Ukraine Mine Action Conference, which is taking place in Lausanne on 17 October, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal met with President of Switzerland Viola Amherd.
The Head of Ukrainian Government thanked for the unconditional support of Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty and for the support of Ukraine’s efforts to achieve a just peace.
Denys Shmyhal informed about the Victory Plan of the President of Ukraine, noted that the first Global Peace Summit was held in Switzerland and thanked Switzerland for supporting the Ukrainian Peace Formula. During the meeting, the parties discussed further joint efforts in this area.
The Prime Minister also thanked for the approval of the International Cooperation Strategy, providing for the allocation of CHF 1.5 billion to Ukraine over the next 4 years.
Among other things, Denys Shmyhal praised the intention to allocate a total of CHF 5 billion to support Ukraine’s reconstruction by 2036.
“We call on Switzerland to join the mechanism established by the G7 countries to use frozen russian assets. Switzerland has blocked over CHF 7 billion worth of assets of sanctioned russian individuals and denied the Central Bank of russia access to over CHF 7 billion. It is fair and right that these funds be used to compensate the victims of the aggression,” said Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.
The Head of Ukrainian Government noted that it was necessary to continue the pressure of sanctions on russia, as they were an effective tool. He thanked Viola Amherd and the Swiss Federal Council, which on 16 October adopted most of the measures of the 14th EU sanctions package against russia. The new measures come into force today.
