Oleksandr Korniyenko speaks at the "FORUM 2000" conference in Prague
During his working visit to the Czech Republic, the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Oleksandr Korniyenko, is participating in the two-day 28th annual "FORUM 2000" conference titled "Proving Democracy's Resolve and Resilience".
On October 13, during the conference, Oleksandr Korniyenko took part in the roundtable discussion "Global Perspectives for Ukraine: Special Tribunal and International Cooperation." The aim of the roundtable was to bring together parliamentarians from around the world to discuss the devastating war ongoing in our country.
"Three years of full-scale invasion and ten years of war. History shows that the Ukrainian people have always been fighting for their freedom and independence, which are threatened by the aggressor, russia. Ukrainians have learned to identify missiles by their sound. Every day, the enemy takes lives and strikes hospitals, educational institutions, and public spaces," Korniyenko stated in his speech. He called on his colleagues to make strong and urgent decisions, emphasizing that time is of the essence.
"Our soldiers on the front lines always say that we need help right now, or even yesterday. This applies to weapons and military assistance that can change the course of the war. International action is also needed, including sanctions and holding criminals accountable," the First Deputy Chairman noted, highlighting that the enemy still has access to foreign components for its missiles.
At the "FORUM 2000," Oleksandr Korniyenko also held meetings with parliamentarians from Latin America. "This is a strategic direction for us. Notably, for the first time in a long while, a parliamentary dialogue took place with Senator Cecilia Requena Zárate from Bolivia. I expressed gratitude for their support of our country and emphasized the importance of this support at all levels. We discussed sanctions policy and the fight against russian propaganda," the First Deputy Chairman reported. Special attention was paid to the "Grain from Ukraine" program. The parties discussed Bolivia's potential participation in the program.
During a meeting between Oleksandr Korniyenko and Fernando Iglesias, a member of the Argentine Parliament, the parties discussed the current security situation in Ukraine. They also focused on new opportunities for cooperation, including joint sessions between parliamentary committees of both countries. "I informed him about an upcoming event, an inter-parliamentary dialogue with Latin American countries, and invited him to participate," Korniyenko concluded.
On October 14, the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is scheduled to speak at a thematic panel: "A Functioning Parliament in Wartime: Lessons from Ukrainian Democracy."
Reference: The idea of the "Forum 2000" conference was conceived in 1997 when President Václav Havel and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Elie Wiesel invited world leaders to Prague to discuss the challenges facing humanity at the turn of the new millennium.
The conference aims to critically explore these challenges, as well as potential solutions and development paths, against the backdrop of deepening global divisions, the rapid spread of technology-related risks, and internal fractures in democratic systems. Discussions at the conference will be held under thematic tracks: "World Order on the Brink," "Fragile Democracies," "Democracy and Technology," "Forum for Ukraine," and "Thematic and Regional Focus."
