Denys Shmyhal and Antony Blinken meet to discuss strengthening air defence, energy and financial support
Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal met with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken in Kyiv.
The parties discussed in detail the main challenges facing Ukraine.
One of them is the strengthening of air defence. Denys Shmyhal thanked the United States for additional systems and missiles. He stressed that Ukraine needed more to protect people and critical infrastructure. Especially energy infrastructure.
“We are preparing for a difficult heating season. And additional air defence systems will help protect energy facilities from russian terror. We are grateful to the United States for providing generators, transformers and other energy equipment,” the Prime Minister said.
The Head of Government stressed that Ukraine expected the United States to allow long-range weapons to strike military targets inside russia to save Ukrainian lives.
Denys Shmyhal and Antony Blinken also focused on finance. The Head of Ukrainian Government noted that this year Ukraine had received the first tranche of USD 4 billion from the United States.
“We continue to implement reforms and fulfil our obligations, and we expect additional financial support for the budget in the near future,” Denys Shmyhal stressed.
The parties also focused on the USD 50 billion in profits from frozen russian assets that the G7 countries had pledged to transfer to Ukraine.
“We expect to have access to these funds by the end of this year,” Denys Shmyhal said.
The Prime Minister thanked the U.S. Presidential Administration, the Congress and the people of the United States for their unwavering support for Ukraine in its fight against russian aggression.
