Ukrainian Parliament has become one of the centres of diplomacy

The First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniienko spoke at the educational and professional youth course “State-builder: the way to restore the state”.

The event was held at the Kyiv School of Public Administration named after Serhii Nyzhnyi for 35 initiative young people from different parts of Ukraine, who were selected from among more than 500 applicants. The best graduates of the course have the opportunity to undergo an internship in public authorities, with subsequent employment in the civil service.

The First Deputy Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament began his speech by saying that he personally knew Serhii Nyzhnyi, after whom the school is named. “We discussed a lot with him the issues of quality public administration, quality public governance in Ukraine, as well as parliamentary diplomacy as an important component of these processes,” he said.

Oleksandr Korniienko spoke about the experience of the Ukrainian Parliament during russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, as well as the specifics of the work of the Verkhovna Rada leadership during this period. “For example, over the past 2.5 years, I have had more than 60 bilateral meetings with my counterparts from other countries. We also host a large number of delegations from other countries,” said Oleksandr Korniienko, “including more than 40 meetings with representatives of Africa, Latin America and Asia. In fact, the Ukrainian Parliament has become one of the centres of diplomacy.”

The students and the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine discussed the role of the Parliament in the process of European integration and international diplomacy, as well as in maintaining relations with our partners. They also discussed the establishment of relations with non-Western countries. They also touched upon the issues of increasing Ukraine's defence capability; decentralisation and public administration reforms; budgeting and taxation processes; and the development of areas in which Ukraine is ahead of the world.

Oleksandr Korniienko thanked the course organisers for the opportunity to join the formation of a new generation of leaders. “It was an extremely inspiring communication. I am pleasantly surprised by the deep geopolitical questions that were raised. I am glad that Ukrainian youth is eager to develop, interested in state-building processes and wants to be part of their development. Together, we will win and build a strong independent progressive state,” the First Vice Speaker of the Parliament concluded.

For reference: The National Programme for Personal and Professional Development of Youth ‘Statebuilder’ was created to build a system of personal and professional development of young people in Ukraine aged 18 to 35, develop responsible leadership and increase the level of civic engagement of young people.

Hundreds of young people from different regions of Ukraine are graduates of the programme, creating a proactive all-Ukrainian community.
