The address of the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk on the occasion of the Independence Day of Ukraine
Dear, unbreakable Ukrainian people!
Today we celebrate the Independence Day of Ukraine.
A day that has a special meaning and significance for all of us, for every Ukrainian!
A day of special value!
And a day that unites us!
33 years ago, our state, continuing the thousand-year tradition of state-building in Ukraine and based on the right to self-determination, became independent and self-sufficient.
And it is our independence that we are defending and fighting for today!
First of all, we are grateful to our soldiers. Our defenders, each and every one of them who is on the battlefield today, defending their positions, going into battle and repelling enemy attacks.
We commemorate, honour and bow down to the memory of all the Heroes who gave their lives in the fight for Ukraine!
We thank doctors and teachers, rescuers and power engineers, scientists and developers, cultural figures and athletes, diplomats and journalists, entrepreneurs and volunteers, each and every one of them who works for their country.
Two and a half years ago, just like ten years ago, we did not submit to russia!
We have shown what courage and will, steadfastness and strength are.
We have united the world around us.
And this is only because we are united by a common desire!
The desire to live in an independent Ukraine, which will definitely celebrate this day every year!
