Prime Minister discusses priorities of bilateral cooperation with World Bank Executive Director
Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal met with a delegation of the World Bank led by Executive Director Eugene Rhuggenaath. The parties discussed Ukraine’s needs and priorities for bilateral cooperation.
“We appreciate the financial support of our partners, including the U.S., EU and IMF. We are going through this year with confidence. We are working to ensure that next year is just as predictable and stable,” said Denys Shmyhal.
At the same time, the Prime Minister stressed that the confiscation of russian assets could be an additional factor. He reminded that the G7 countries would provide Ukraine with USD 50 billion through the use of russian sovereign assets frozen in the West.
“This is only the first step. Our goal is to confiscate all the frozen assets of the russian federation,” the Prime Minister of Ukraine stressed.
Denys Shmyhal also spoke about the priorities for rapid recovery: energy, critical infrastructure, housing reconstruction, demining and support for small and medium-sized businesses. He stressed that energy remained a major challenge.
The Prime Minister informed the World Bank about steps to build a decentralised energy system and work to increase electricity imports from the EU.
Denys Shmyhal thanked the World Bank for its continued support and expressed hope for further implementation of joint bilateral projects.
