The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk met with the President of the National Council of the Federal Assembly Eric Nussbaumer
First of all, the Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk expressed his gratitude for Switzerland's consent to host the inaugural Global Peace Summit and for the efforts to prepare this major event for the implementation of the Ukrainian Peace Formula.
"It is the Swiss Parliament that has become one of the important platforms for the presentation of the Ukrainian Peace Formula," said the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
At the same time, he thanked Switzerland for the humanitarian assistance provided to our country since the beginning of russia's full-scale invasion.
In addition, Ruslan Stefanchuk asked the Federal Assembly to carry out the relevant parliamentary procedures in connection with the Government's decision to allocate a total of five billion Swiss francs to Ukraine for reconstruction purposes. Ruslan Stefanchuk thanked his colleague for his willingness to make personal efforts to facilitate the passage of government decisions in favour of Ukraine.
The parties also discussed the development of cooperation in the field of humanitarian demining. "Ukraine is ready to deepen cooperation and ensure the successful holding of the second International Donor Conference on Humanitarian Mine Action in Ukraine in Lausanne this autumn," said Ruslan Stefanchuk, expressing his gratitude to Switzerland for its support of the Grain from Ukraine programme and for the country's significant financial contribution to its implementation: "We look forward to further support for this humanitarian initiative."
In particular, in the context of defence assistance, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine noted that Ukraine expects Switzerland to work out a compromise solution to ease the current restrictions on the re-export of Swiss-made weapons and military equipment.
The Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine expressed his gratitude to Switzerland for its consistent sanctions policy, stressing that the global ban on the supply of dual-use goods to russia is extremely important.
Finally, the parties paid attention to inter-parliamentary cooperation and the continuation of the work of the friendship groups of the legislative bodies of Switzerland and Ukraine. "The Federal Assembly plays a leading role in ensuring Switzerland's support for our country," stressed Ruslan Stefanchuk, inviting his colleague to visit Kyiv.
For his part, the President of the National Council of the Federal Assembly, Eric Nussbaumer, noted that the Parliaments of Ukraine and Switzerland have long maintained contacts, which have become more intense since the beginning of the full-scale invasion.
He also noted that from the first days of the full-scale invasion of russia, the Swiss Parliament condemned the aggressive war against Ukraine in violation of international law by the political and military leadership of russia.
At the same time, Eric Nussbaumer expressed his solidarity with Ukraine and the Ukrainian people. "We are impressed by the resilience of the Ukrainian people and their desire to defend not only their country, but also the whole of Europe," said the President of the National Council of the Federal Assembly, expressing his strong and deep solidarity with Ukraine.
