The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk met with speakers of the parliaments of Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia
During his working visit to the Republic of Poland on the eve of his participation in the Summit of the Speakers of the Parliaments of Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk held a closed meeting with the heads of the parliaments of these countries.
“This meeting is taking place in Białystok, a city bordering belarus. This is evidence of a deep understanding of global security challenges, the protection of common interests and the need to improve security in the region,” the Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine said in the first place.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, he said that the main talks would take place on Tuesday, 11 June. However, the main topics on the agenda include security in the region, the security situation in Ukraine and Ukraine’s urgent defence needs.
“It is extremely important to remove any restrictions on the use of weapons provided by our partners to deter the aggressor, as well as to protect our airspace by providing Ukraine with aircraft and air defence systems,” the Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine stressed.
In addition, he noted that assistance in restoring Ukraine’s civilian energy infrastructure, the destruction of which is the enemy’s cynical goal, remains important.
Speaking to the media, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine also stressed that on 15-16 June, the Peace Summit will be held in Switzerland, bringing together world leaders who want a just and lasting peace to return to Ukraine as soon as possible. Ruslan Stefanchuk expressed his gratitude that the leaders of all the countries present in Białystok today will take part in the Summit.
The Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine expressed his belief that the path to peace and the implementation of the Peace Formula of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi should also have a parliamentary dimension.
In addition, he announced that tomorrow’s summit will also discuss projects to rebuild Ukraine, some of which have already begun: “Poland, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania must participate in the reconstruction of Ukraine.”
Ruslan Stefanchuk also noted that the parties will discuss the European and Euro-Atlantic agenda, in which the main issue for Ukraine today is the early start of negotiations on joining the European Union and an invitation to join NATO.
In conclusion, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine expressed his gratitude to his colleagues and friends, in particular, Szymon Hołownia from Poland, Lauri Hussar from Estonia, Daiga Mieriņa from Latvia, and Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen from Lithuania, and in their respective capacities – to the friendly Polish, Estonian, Latvian and Lithuanian peoples for all the assistance provided to Ukraine in these difficult times.
