Parliament of Moldova has adopted a Declaration on condemnation of forced deportation of Ukrainian children as genocide against Ukraine
The Parliament of the Republic of Moldova adopted a Declaration condemning the genocidal policy of the russian federation against Ukraine – the forced displacement and deportation of Ukrainian children from the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine and to the territory of the russian federation.
This was announced by the Deputy Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Olena Kondratiuk. She noted that the Declaration was adopted following her personal appeal to the leadership of the Parliament of Moldova.
The resolution was voted in favour by 60 MPs – a convincing majority of the 79 present at the meeting. Not a single parliamentarian spoke against it.
“This is another practical result of Ukrainian parliamentary diplomacy! I asked for such a document to be considered during meetings with the Speaker of the Parliament, Igor Grosu, and the Vice-Speaker, Doina German, when I recently visited Moldova on a working visit. My colleagues welcomed this initiative and assured me that this important issue will be considered in the near future,” said Olena Kondratiuk.
“By this resolution, the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova declares that the denial of the existence of the Ukrainian nation, as well as all inhumane policies pursued by the russian federation towards the children of Ukraine, fall under the definition of genocide, in accordance with the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide,” said Doina German, the Vice Speaker of the Parliament of Moldova, before the consideration of the issue. According to Olena Kondratiuk, the Moldovan Parliament thus joined the PACE, the European Parliament, the US Congress, the parliaments of Canada, Poland, the Baltic States, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, France, Iceland, and other countries that have adopted similar resolutions.
“I am grateful to the leadership of the Parliament of Moldova, Speaker Igor Grosu and Deputy Speaker Doina German for their leadership and determination in protecting the rights of Ukrainian children and international humanitarian law! I am grateful to all the MPs who voted for this Declaration,” said Olena Kondratiuk, the Deputy Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
