The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk delivered a welcoming speech on the occasion of the visit of the President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola to students of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv
“The future of Ukraine, the future of the European project lies on your shoulders — on the shoulders of our youth, our students. Ukrainian youth have always fought for independence during the revolutions, many Ukrainian students volunteered and went to the front to defend Ukraine,” the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine emphasized in his address to the students.
He noted that it is up to young people to build Ukraine in the future — to become leaders of a new modern European Ukraine: “And it is a great honor that Roberta Metsola, one of the most prominent leaders of modern Europe, will address Ukrainian students.”
The Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine emphasized that the President Roberta Metsola has demonstrated leadership since the first days of the russian invasion, in particular, on March 1, 2022, the European Parliament held an extraordinary session where the only issue on the agenda was russian aggression against Ukraine.
“Since those first days and during these two years, the European Parliament has always had a strong voice whenever it came to creating an international coalition to support our fight for freedom and European values, when it came to supplying weapons to Ukraine and increasing sanctions pressure on russia,” said Ruslan Stefanchuk, adding that the European Parliament was the first institution to advocate for granting Ukraine the status of a candidate for accession to the European Union.
“In these difficult times of russian brutal and unjustified war the young Ukrainians, the students, are the beacon of hope for the European future of Ukraine. Their determination to continue studying to serve the reconstruction and rebuilding of Ukraine is inspirational,” said the President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola.
