Denys Shmyhal and Charles Michel tackle financial support and the use of frozen russian assets

On 20 March 2024, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal met with President of the European Council Charles Michel.

The Head of the Ukrainian Government thanked for the financial assistance and the decision to launch negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU, which had been taken in December last year.

The parties discussed economic and social support for our country, as well as steps towards European integration. The Prime Minister of Ukraine stressed the importance of adopting a negotiating framework as soon as possible.

One of the topics of conversation between Denys Shmyhal and Charles Michel was the importance of legal and practical solutions to use frozen russian assets for the benefit of Ukraine.

The Head of the Ukrainian Government also welcomed the decision of the European Council to establish a EUR 5 billion fund to provide assistance to Ukraine in the framework of the European Peace Fund.
