The Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk held a working meeting with the Chairman of the NATO Military Committee, Admiral Rob Bauer

During the meeting, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine first of all stressed that Ukraine's membership in NATO is the only way to deter future russian aggression and strengthen the Alliance's collective defence.

At the same time, he emphasised close cooperation and dialogue with the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, which has repeatedly expressed its support for Ukraine's membership in the Alliance. “As the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, I appreciate the dynamics of contacts with the President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, Michal Szczerba,” added the Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine.

“Today, the Ukrainian Parliament is in close cooperation with the parliaments of the Allied countries in the context of implementing the necessary legislative changes in accordance with NATO standards,” said Ruslan Stefanchuk. The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine also noted that the Parliament is the place where laws are adopted that, among other things, bring Ukraine closer to NATO.

In addition, he noted that Ukraine expects a positive decision on future membership in the Alliance at the Washington Summit: “After all, today the Ukrainian army is de facto a NATO army: it fights with NATO weapons, fights according to NATO standards and stands in defence of the Alliance's eastern flank.”

“Despite the ongoing full-scale war, the Allies can invite Ukraine to join the Alliance and start negotiations on accession,” the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine concluded.
