Ukraine will be fully secure only when it is in NATO
During the meeting, the interlocutors discussed topics of importance to both countries. In particular, they discussed strengthening parliamentary diplomacy and cooperation between Ukraine and Romania, establishing close cooperation between the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the bicameral Parliament of Romania, and exchanging experience in European and Euro-Atlantic integration.
The Ambassador, who once served as the National Coordinator for the Bucharest NATO Summit, emphasised that Romania supports Ukraine's membership in the EU and NATO.
“Our neighbours are ready to share their experience of integration: both positive and mistakes that should be avoided,” said Olena Kondratiuk.
The Vice-Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament also addressed her Romanian colleagues and called, in particular, for the Romanian Parliament to adopt a resolution on the non-recognition of the so-called presidential elections in russia, not only in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, but also in general, as undemocratic. She called these fake elections “elections without a choice”.
In addition, Olena Kondratiuk called on Romanian parliamentarians to adopt a resolution condemning the mass abduction of Ukrainian children by russia.
She also thanked Romania for its support of Ukraine during the war: political, humanitarian, economic and military, and reminded that 85,000 internally displaced persons from Ukraine, most of whom are women and children, are under protection in Romania.
“We highly appreciate the efforts to build border infrastructure, create new and develop existing transport corridors for the export of Ukrainian agricultural products. This is a crucial contribution to our economic sustainability!” the Deputy Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine said at the end of the conversation.
