The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine held the first personal working meeting with the Speaker of the National Council of the Slovak Republic Peter Pellegrini
“During 2022-2023, the interparliamentary dialogue proved to be effective. Slovak parliamentarians have demonstrated strong support and solidarity with Ukraine,” the Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine said, adding that during the meeting he had heard words of support and solidarity with Ukraine from his colleague.
“We especially appreciate the decision of the Slovak Parliament, which recognised the russian regime as a terrorist regime and russia as a state that supports terrorism,” he said.
At the same time, Ruslan Stefanchuk stressed that it is important to continue active cooperation for the sake of the rule of international law, democratic values and prosperity in our countries.
In addition, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine expressed his gratitude to Slovakia and the Slovak people for the precious support and assistance provided to Ukraine and our citizens.
He also thanked for the contribution of the Slovak Republic to the decision of the European Council to start negotiations on Ukraine's membership in the European Union and support in unblocking EUR 50 billion of EU assistance to Ukraine: “It is very important for us to receive funding under the Ukraine Facility as soon as possible.”
Finally, the parties discussed the importance of continuing to provide defence assistance to Ukraine and imposing further sanctions against russia: “The sanctions imposed by the EU against russia must be effective. We ask you to support not only the packages, but also to make it impossible for the aggressor country to circumvent them.”
