Ukraine and Japan sign 56 documents at the Conference for Promotion of Economic Growth and Reconstruction in Tokyo

A total of 56 documents were signed at the Conference for Promotion of Economic Growth and Reconstruction held in Tokyo on 19 February with the participation of Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal and Prime Minister of Japan Fumio Kishida.

“Japan has already taken a leading role in providing financial assistance to Ukraine. Now Japan should become one of the leaders of Ukraine’s recovery and investment in our economy,” said Denys Shmyhal.

The documents include intergovernmental agreements, memorandums, and arrangements between businesses and local authorities.

In particular, an intergovernmental convention on the avoidance of double taxation was signed, which is extremely important for Japanese companies planning new projects in Ukraine.

More than a dozen agreements have been reached with major Japanese organisations to support Ukraine’s reconstruction: JICA, JETRO, NEXI Export Credit Agency and Japan Bank for International Cooperation.

Grant agreements have been signed for the implementation of recovery programmes, as well as a number of documents between the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine and Japanese companies for the supply of various agricultural machinery and equipment to Ukraine.

An intergovernmental memorandum on cooperation in education and technology was signed.

Naftogaz also agreed on a wind energy project.

The Ukrainian gas transmission system operator signed a memorandum on preparations for the modernisation of gas compressor stations.

The parties also signed documents in the fields of energy, telecommunications, infrastructure construction and the environment.
