The First Vice-Speaker Oleksandr Korniienko met with President of the Jean Monnet Foundation, former President of the European Parliament Pat Cox and NDI team

First of all, during the meeting, the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniienko informed his European colleagues about a number of results achieved after the ninth round of the Jean Monnet Dialogue.

In particular, the election of the MP Yaroslav Yurchyshyn as Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Freedom of Speech and the active work of the Working Group on the preparation of comprehensive legislative proposals to amend the laws of Ukraine in the field of parliamentary law.

Oleksandr Korniienko also informed about the consideration of the presentation of the subgroup's developments on increasing the level of institutional capacity of the system of ensuring the work of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to meet the needs and challenges and the discussion of the draft law on amendments to certain legislative acts of Ukraine on the Code of Ethics.

At the same time, the First Vice Speaker emphasized the work of the Interagency Working Group on Improving Legislative Work, Assessing Legislative Impact and Improving the Results of Laws Implementation.

He noted that attention is focused on strengthening cooperation between the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine in the area of adaptation of Ukrainian legislation to the provisions of EU law, improving post-legislative control, and introducing effective mechanisms for such cooperation.

The parties also discussed preparations for the next round of the Jean Monnet Dialogue.


“The Ukrainian Parliament, despite everything, continues to implement and work on important legislative initiatives and on the processes of internal reform of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine,” emphasized the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

In conclusion, Oleksandr Korniienko expressed his gratitude to Pat Cox, the President of the Jean Monnet Foundation and former President of the European Parliament, for his personal efforts and contribution to important issues for Ukraine. “The support of the European Parliament helps us to withstand difficulties and fulfill our responsibilities to the Ukrainian people,” he said.
