Ukraine and Poland agree to boost bilateral intergovernmental cooperation

Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal and Prime Minister of Poland Donald Tusk held a meeting in Kyiv to tackle a number of issues of bilateral cooperation.

"Ukraine and Poland are committed to resetting intergovernmental relations. The reboot is taking place on the basis of equality and mutual assistance. On the terms of partnership and a shared goal - the independence and prosperity of our countries," Denys Shmyhal emphasized.

The prime ministers agreed to strengthen bilateral intergovernmental cooperation. In particular, to hold coordinating intergovernmental meetings and intensify the work of the intergovernmental commission.

The heads of government also discussed the unimpeded movement of goods across the common border.

"We believe that to date, the issue has been resolved, the border has been unblocked, and the joint work is yielding results.

Ukraine has proposed a mechanism for verification of agricultural exports in compliance with the European Commission's decision. This mechanism is already working effectively with Romania and Bulgaria, and we propose to use it in our mutually beneficial relations," said Denys Shmyhal.

Among other things, the parties discussed the introduction of joint border control and the modernization of checkpoints. They also talked about the creation of four new checkpoints in addition to the existing 14.

Denys Shmyhal also invited Polish businesses to participate in the construction of the Krakowiec-Lviv-Brody-Rivne highway on concessionary terms. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, for his part, supported this initiative.
