The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the European Parliament signed Memorandum of Understanding

During a working visit to Brussels, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding.

Given the existing cooperation, the document provides for support for parliamentary democracy in the context of Ukraine’s restoration and accession to the European Union.

The Memorandum emphasises the importance of joint activities in the context of recovery and reforms in Ukraine. The parties agreed to cooperate closely in the areas of parliamentary standards, lawmaking, oversight and transparency, promoting interaction between members of the Ukrainian and European Parliaments.

It is noted that these measures will be in line with the national agenda and will support preparations for accession negotiations, contributing to recovery and development, as well as strengthening the institutional capacity and transparency of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

The signing of the updated Memorandum between the European Parliament and the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine defines the basis for close cooperation, establishing a format of cooperation at the level of parliamentary committees. This is one of the main stages in the transformation of the Ukrainian Parliament and the adaptation of national legislation to EU standards.
